Taking Care Of You

It’s a well-known fact: Mum takes care of everyone. Not only is she personal a shopper, a teacher’s assistant, a cook, a detective, a housekeeper, and a nurse; she’s also the chief worrier. Mum keeps an eye on everything, and everyone, in her home. And by performing all of these duties on a daily (and nightly) basis, there is often little thought that she puts into herself.

You cannot take care of others if you are not healthy enough to do so. This is why it’s important for all Mums to take care of themselves in order to stay well.

Fortunately, there are 5 things that you can do today to take back your life and make it even better.

5 – Get moving. Yes, Mums are always on the go. Keep your body moving consistently by doing things like taking the stairs instead of the elevator, or having a dance party with the kids on a regular basis.

4 – Eat well. Yes, sugar and caffeine can get you going, but they are not what your body needs to keep going. Choose wisely when it comes to snacks; whole grains, nuts, and fruits are good choices. Eat clean, sustainable, and organic whenever possible.

3 – Get checked. Taking your kids to see the doctor is a yearly adventure, but you wouldn’t have it any other way. You should be seen by your own doctor as well. Don’t put it off; have your yearly checkups and tests as needed.

2 – Stay connected. Schedule a date night with your partner every single month, no excuses. Make time to have family over for dinner, friends out for coffee, and neighbors over for drinks. Connect with yourself through 10 minutes of silent meditation each day.

1 – Sleep soundly. Those who do not get enough sleep are prone to an increased appetite that can lead to weight gain, depression, heart disease, and type 2 diabetes. Aim for over 6 hours of shut-eye to keep yourself well.
